HanoiDue to three players infected with Covid-19, Coach Park Hang-seo had to summon more midfielders Tran Phi Son and striker Ngan Van Dai to kick off the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Two additional players will be present to join the Vietnamese team on Friday, January 14.
Phi Son, 30 years old, comes from Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province. He was recruited by SLNA at the age of 13, and played for the Nghe team until the end of 2017 and then moved to Ho Chi Minh City. In the 2021 season, he returned to Ha Tinh according to the call of his homeland. Phi Son is highly appreciated for his ability to climb the border, play rich in strength.
This is the first time he has been called up by Coach Park.
Ngan Van Dai, 20 years old, kicks a striker. He grew up in the youth academy of Hanoi FC, used to play for Saigon FC, SLNA and Hanoi before joining Quang Nam in November 2021. Van Dai was once called up for the 2019 Asian Cup final round.
Preparing for this World Cup qualifying series, Coach Park called 30 players. However, only 27 players joined the army this morning on January 13 in Hanoi. Midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc, strikers Nguyen Tien Linh and Nguyen Van Toan are in isolation for Covid-19 treatment, not sure if they can go to Australia.
The team will practice according to the principle of “safety bubbles” in Hanoi, before flying to Australia on January 20. After this match, Park’s teachers and students will immediately fly back to Hanoi to welcome China on February 1.
This is the first time Vietnam has entered the third qualifying round of the World Cup – the Asian region. The team is at the bottom of Group B with six defeats.
